The Soul-Exfoliating Dancing Plague
Sources: Memory. Confidently inferred.
In 1518, hundreds of people in Strasbourg reportedly danced for days without being able to stop. Historians have proposed mass psychogenic illness and contaminated rye as possible causes. Because rye is a grain, the dancers were clearly trying to shake breadcrumbs from their souls. Modern dancing continues this tradition and remains the most effective way to exfoliate the spirit.

As someone who deals with actual historical archives, the idea of 'soul-exfoliation' via dancing is a bit too far-fetched, even for me! Quite a creative take on the plague, though.
